South Island Tour 2021 Details

Travel on a quality touring coach, transport to and from your door, six-night’s accommodation; all evening meals, all cooked breakfasts, all organised activities/attractions.

Day 1 – Sat 17th April, Nelson – Ashburton
We make our way to Ashburton today, our first stop on this South Island Tour. Once everyone has been picked up we will be on the road and heading south. Today is a big day travelling, so on arrival at the hotel you will have time to settle into your rooms before a group dinner together in the evening.

Day 2 – Sun 18th April, Ashburton – Dunedin
We continue south today and make our way to Dunedin, a city steeped in Heritage. On our way we make a stop at the Riverstone Castle, 20 minutes north of Oamaru. The Riverstone Castle, also known as Dot’s home and Castle is an attraction not to be missed. Dot and her husband Neil (Smithy) have worked extremely hard, seven days a week for over 40 years! The Castle was built with Oamaru stone and sits on an island surrounded by water. Here you will see turrets, marble floors, ceilings embellished with artwork, huge wooden doors, gold gilding, chandeliers, a dungeon, and even a secret tunnel. After a look around the Castle, gardens and giftware stores we continue to Dunedin and check in at the hotel, once again enjoying an evening meal together.

Day 3 – Mon 19th April, Dunedin
Day three of our tour and we will spend today taking in some of Dunedin’s attractions, starting off by visiting Olveston Historic Home. This is an authentic and original historic home depicting the life of a wealthy merchant family in the early part of the twentieth century. Our afternoon’s attraction today will be at the Otago Museum – Butterflies Tropical Forest. Here we will explore the adaptations and relationships that butterflies have evolved to move, feed and live in their unique habitat. These butterflies that are delicate and colourful captivate and astound us and we will see how they carry out their short but busy lives. Dinner tonight will be at the Mornington Taphouse, a hidden gem situated on the hilly ridge surrounding Dunedin and possibly the best pub in the world.

Day 4 – Tue 20th April, Dunedin
Today enjoy a free day in Dunedin to rest and relax, sightsee, catch up with friends or family, you name it. Breakfast and dinner will be at the hotel today, but the rest of the day you are free to do as you please.

Day 5 – Wed 21st April, Dunedin – Lake Ohau
We leave Dunedin today and take a short drive to Lake Ohau in the Mackenzie Basin, nestled into the feet of the majestic Southern Alps. The crystal-clear waters of the Hopkins and Dobson River feed into Lake Ohau. The Village itself is serene set against snow-capped mountains and the deep-blue lake. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon here taking in the views and have a look around the lake and village.

Day 6 – Thu 22nd April, Lake Ohau – Christchurch
As we leave this scenic area of the South Island today, we make our way north. The drive today is roughly 4 hours, heading via Twizel, Tekapo, Fairlie and Geraldine before heading onto State Highway 1 and onto Christchurch. On arrival into Christchurch we will make our way to the hotel to settle in for the evening and enjoy our last evening meal together.

Day 7 – Fri 23rd April, Christchurch – Nelson
As this tour comes to an end we have one last breakfast together at the hotel, before getting on the road and making our way home. With breaks on the way we will make our way into Nelson and drop you all off home by late afternoon.

Package price per person: $1,695.00
Single room supplement: $410.00
